A study classes Universitat de València’s Unit of Oral Implantology as one of the most productive in the world

The Oral Surgery and Implantology Unit of the Universitat de València has been classed in the world top thirty institutions on implantology research and the second in Spain, following a study published on the scientific journal Clinical Oral Implants Research.
The study is focused on finding out how many articles on research and implantology advances have been published by each university. Thus, the Universitat de València – with 56 published articles – stands second in Spain, only behind the Universidad Complutense de Madrid – 81 articles.
Moreover, the directors of the Unit of Oral Implantology have been included on the list of most active authors in the field between 2009 and 2013, which corresponds with the five-year period that the research is focused on. Dr. Miguel Peñarrocha Diago, professor in Oral Surgery from Universitat de València, together with María Peñarrocha Diago, a lecturer from the same university, have published 75 articles and have been positioned in the top 10 of the list.
A team from the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the Universitat de València has made this article possible. Titled Bibliometric Analysis of the scientific production in Implantology (2009-2015), the publication shows an increase in the number of published articles on implantology during this period, following a greater collaboration between authors from different institutions.
The article shows that the increase in collaboration has also resulted in an increment of the average participation, which raised up to 4.66 collaborators per article. This figure brings implantology to other disciplines in the field of biomedicine, such as cardiology or virology. The main reason that explains this tendency is the increasing complexity of the researched topics. Consequently, the collaboration of more researchers is needed in order to achieve a multidisciplinary perspective.
